A wide
variety of events happen at Penn State Schuylkill throughout
the year. County residents are invited and encouraged to
visit the campus to enjoy these opportunities. Each month,
the events that are open to the public will be highlighted
here. All events are free unless a fee is specified.
Schuylkill Haven, PA (Penn State) October 29, 2009 – The
month of November features two very different musical
experiences at Penn State Schuylkill. Details are listed
below. The Schuylkill Campus of Penn State offers a wide
variety of performances throughout the year and Schuylkill
County residents are invited to these events.
Cultural Events Series
– Penn State Schuylkill’s Cultural Event Series hosts
Ewabo Caribbean Steel Orchestra
on
Wednesday, November 11 at 7:00 p.m. in the Morgan
Auditorium.
Ewabo originates from the Virgin Islands and their emphasis
is on the steel drum otherwise known as “pan.” Please join
the campus for a wonderful night of unique music.
Midday Music Series
– The Midday Music series showcases the music of Doug Wood
on November 12 at noon in the Hidden Stream Café. Wood’s
music has an acoustic,
new age sound. His instrumental songs feature acoustic
guitar mixed with cool, looping and percussion elements. His
music can be previewed at www.dougwoodmusic.com.
Religious & Philosophical Forum (RAPF) Lecture Series
– On November 20, Penn State’s RAPF will host the third
lecture of the 2009-2010 Lecture Series. The event starts at
noon in the
R.
Michael Fryer Conference Center in the Classroom Building.
Dr. Donald C. Lindenmuth, Assistant Professor of Philosophy,
will be addressing the topic "Philosophical Reflections on
Community."
Special Event
– PSU Schuylkill’s Inter-Faith Group invites the community
to a student-planned worship service on Nov. 1 in the Morgan
Auditorium at 3 p.m. Contemporary worship will be led by a
team of Penn State students. Pastor Keon Gerow from the
Catalyst for Change Church in Philadelphia will be guest
speaking. The purpose of the service is to bring together
Penn State students and community members from all ethnic
backgrounds, all Christian affiliations and all religious
traditions to worship God.
Athletic Competitions
– Penn State Schuylkill’s men’s and women’s basketball teams
play their first home games of the season on Thursday,
November 19. Game time is 6:00 p.m. and they will be
competing against Northampton Community College. Admission
is $4 or free with any student I.D.
Penn
State is a valuable part of the Schuylkill community. As
such, County residents are welcome to join the campus for
many exciting events taking place this year. There is a
beautiful University campus right here in Schuylkill County
waiting for you to visit and explore your own “Diversity
within Community.”
